The TiVo Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder is TiVo's high definition digital video recorder for digital cable*. It delivers the highest quality, high-definition entertainment experience possible, including the ability to record (2) HD channels at once.** Now you can experience the true definition of HD with the very-top-of-the-line sound, highest-quality picture, and the Emmy® award-winning TiVo service all in one incredible box.

What is Series3? How is it different from Series2?
The TiVo Series3 HD DVR is the evolution of the TiVo platform and service to record and playback HD video from various sources. The Series3 HD DVR also introduces the world's first and only THX®-certified HD digital video recorder so you can enjoy all of the detail—both in sound and picture—of the original high definition broadcast.

What's unique about this product?
The TiVo Series3 HD is the best DVR in its class. Refinements include:
  • - THX-certification for superior picture clarity and audio quality
  • - Next generation back-lit, programmable remote control
  • - TiVo's Emmy award winning DVR service including intuitive features such as SeasonPass and WishLists

How many hours of programs can I record?
Up to 300 hours in standard definition, and up to 32 hours in high definition, depending on your signal source.

Will Online Scheduling and TiVo's advanced broadband features (those found under "Music, Photos, Products, & More") work with the TiVo Series3 box?
Online Scheduling and other TiVo broadband features, including games, Yahoo! weather & traffic and photos are available on the Series3 HD box.
Will TiVo® KidZone and TiVoCast be available on the Series3 HD box?
TiVo KidZone and TiVoCast will not be available at launch. Availability is anticipated for late 2006.

Will the TiVoToGo™ feature and Multi-Room Viewing be available on the Series3 HD?
As always, TiVo's goal is to make available as many of the Emmy® award-winning TiVo service features as possible on all of our hardware platforms. The TiVo Series3 HD DVR is designed to enable additional service features to be activited by a software download when additional features become available. We expect that a version of TiVoToGo and Multi-Room Viewing features will be made available for the TiVo Series3 HD DVR in the future. Because TiVo worked directly with Cable Television Laboratories Inc. (CableLabs®) to enable the recording of digital standard definition and high definition channels with the TiVo Series3 HD box, this product has unique requirements with respect to such digital channels. TiVo is working with CableLabs and our own engineering team on enabling Multi-Room Viewing and other technologies relating to moving certain digital content around the home environment.


Does the Series3 HD DVR work with satellite programming?
No. Series3 HD box provides access to HD Digital Cable, analog cable and ATSC over-the-air signals. Satellite programming is not supported.


What HD modes does it support?
All the standard modes including 1080i & 720p widescreen. The Series3 HD box will also support native pass through and up and down-scaling of video content.

What is a CableCARD™ decoder?
A CableCARD decoder is small card that allows a digital TV or set top box to receive Digital Cable programming from your cable provider. It's about the size of a thick credit card, and fits into a special slot built into digital TVs and a growing number of peripheral devices.

For full functionality, the TiVo Series3 HD DVR requires 2 CableCARD decoders, available from your cable provider, to support dual channel digital cable recording. The Series3 HD box can also operate with a single CableCARD, but will be limited to accessing one digital cable channel at a time. You will need to call your cable provider to request CableCARD decoders. Depending on your cable company, CableCARDs may require a small monthly fee, ranging from free to $2 per month.

Will the Series3 HD DVR work without CableCARD(s)?
Yes. Without CableCARD(s) the Series3 HD DVR will still be able to access in-the clear digital cable channels (generally local channels), basic cable channels, ATSC digital over the air channels (available in high definition in most areas) and analog antenna channels.

Will the Series3 HD box work with my cable company's interactive program guide and video on demand services?
The TiVo Series3 HD is capable of receiving analog basic, digital basic, and digital premium cable television programming by direct connection to a cable system providing such programming.

Certain advanced and interactive digital cable services such as video-on-demand, a cable operator's enhanced program guide, and data-enhanced television services may require the use of a separate cable company-provided set-top box . If you wish to receive interactive digital cable services, please contact your local cable company to request connection of a cable company-provided digital set top box to a separate input on your television. The TiVo Series3 HD DVR will continue to record and play analog basic, digital basic and digital premium cable television programming as usual, and with most televisions, you will be able to switch inputs to receive the interactive digital cable services.
